On Sunday, July 12, 2026 at Wildwood Community Church I preached a sermon based on 6:20-26. This message was part 2 of our new series, “Speak Plainly.” Below you will find questions related to the message for personal reflection or group discussion. You will also find audio and video of the message to listen to/watch, download, or share.
Sermon Questions:
- Pray
- Read Luke 6:20-26
- Imagine that you were one of Jesus’ first Apostles. Early in His ministry, you certainly would have felt “blessed” to be asked to be on His team. What do you imagine they were hoping He would do for them?
- Jesus speaks clearly to help set their expectations for what would result from our following Him. He articulates poverty, hunger, tears, and persecution as some of the things the “blessed” in Him can expect in this life. Think of your life experience can you relate to these experiences?
- In what way can we view poverty, hunger, sorrow, and persecution a part of a life that is “blessed”? Did anything from this morning’s message stand out to you to encourage you when you walk through these kinds of adversities?
- Have you ever been tempted to walk away from Jesus or ignore Jesus in order to pursue wealth, satisfy a desire, experience only a life of leisure, or gain popularity? Jesus says that to choose these things over Him is something to be pitied. Why do you think He says this?
- What is the source of your “consolation” (Luke 6:24 vs. Luke 2:25)?
- What stands out to you most from this message? Any particular takeaway?
