This Christmas season at Wildwood Community Church we have explored a number of Scripture passages under the headline of Jesus’ statement in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world.” So far we have seen the significance of Jesus’ original statement, the foreshadowing of the Light’s arrival in Isaiah 9:1-7, and the recognition of the Light of the world’s “dawning” at the birth of Christ as attested by Zechariah, Simeon, and Anna in Luke 1-2. It has been great to explore the beauty of Christ’s Light shining against the contrast of this dark world.
This Sunday, on December 17 in our three morning services (8:30, 9:45, and 11:00), we will again be comparing the Light against the world’s dark by looking at a comparison of two kings from Matthew 2:1-16.
“Wait a second,” you might be tempted to say. “I thought there were THREE kings in Matthew 2, not TWO kings!”
Though math is not my best subject, I only count two kings in Matthew 2 … and Sunday we will see who they are. In the process, God willing, we will learn something incredibly important about life depending on which of these two kings we most identify with. Along the way, my prayer is that we will be impacted at a deep level by the GREATNESS of Jesus Christ, that His beauty might impact our affections … for we follow what we focus on and revere.
Looking forward to seeing you Sunday, and bring friends! We end the services with our worship team’s musical gift to our congregation each year – the “Carol of the Bells!” See you Sunday.
