Well, today is my 39th birthday.  It has been a great day.  Today began with Kimberly giving Joshua money for donuts.  I drove him to Donut King and he proceeded to buy Daddy breakfast, what a birthday treat.  The rest of the day was a fun mix of watching it rain, working a puzzle, finding a bag of bagels on the front porch (thank you some anonymous friend!), taking Josh to Academy to buy him his first set of golf clubs, eating a delicious taco dinner, and watching “John Adams” the miniseries on DVD with Kimberly after Josh went down for the night. What a great day!  We are very blessed.

I wanted to write to you today to confirm that yesterday around noon, we were able to remove Kimberly’s trach!  The surgeon who did the transplant does not believe Kimberly will need more surgery, so the trach is out.  Since most of you reading this have never seen a trach removed before, I will tell you, as someone who has seen it done a few times, it is a very simple procedure:  the tracheostomy tube is simply pulled out and a bandaid is placed over the opening.  This opening heals on its own (most of the time) without stitches or corrective measures within a few days.  Since Kimberly is on heavy medication, it is unclear if her trach opening will heal fast or slow.  If it does not close on its own, the doctors will stitch it up later.  Please join us in praying that this trach opening heals quickly (within the next week), without complication, and that it heals beautifully (leaving very minimal and unobtrusive scarring.)

Thanks for praying with us!
